Weekend Snapshots: Projects, Projects

The last couple weeks have been crazy with projects around the Shemwell house.  The husb and I have both tackled projects we have never tried before like making, covering and installing the cornice boards pictured below.  It was a learning experience for both of us for sure.  I'm really happy with the way they turned out though!  I'll upload a few pictures of them hung up in a few weeks.  For now here a few photos of the process of making them.

I always have our laptop set up with SATC, Glee, or some other girly movie to keep me entertained during these long sewing days.

I made all the curtain panels to be hung in the baby room as well.  I went with plain white Brandywine Duck Cloth from Calico Corners since the cornice board material has so much color and pattern.  I am going to add trim to these panels though once it's no longer on back order and ships out to me.  Decorating can be frustrating at times when vendors are the ones messing up or out of stock on items.  (Cough, cough) Z Gallerie!  My rug was delivered in black instead of indigo - so irritating!

Anyway, making curtain panels is definitely not my most favorite sewing projects in the world, but for the quality of fabric I wanted to have hanging on the windows to block out sunlight in the middle of the day plus being lined, the most cost efficient method was for me to make the curtains myself.  So I made 6 panels at 95" each.  Back breaking at times.  Especially at 32-33 weeks pregnant when bending over and kneeling is a chore in itself.  However, those suckers are done!!  Thank God.

Luckily we have a decent amount of floor space in our small home that I can roll out this much fabric.  Keeping the black dog hair off white fabric is a whole other obstacle.  I used the lint roller a lot and this is after vacuuming and steaming the section repeatedly.

I love my hot tea starting these projects out early in the morning.  My mother-in-law sent this great tea kit that tastes great and brews really quickly.

Another project we tackled was painting a child-size ricking chair.  So little & cute!

I'm still in the middle of making a foot stool to sit in front of my glider/rocker.  It's halfway done, but looking good so far!
