Modern Nursery Plan for Baby Shemmy #3!

Wow! I wasn't even sure I knew how to do this anymore, but I just need to see things planned out before I start buying and executing. And you know, nothing like actually getting it going four weeks before the due date. Since this little Shemmy is a surprise boy or girl I'm keeping it bright and modern + black and white. 

Maybe I'll actually post some 'after' pictures when it's ready to welcome the little one home!

Weekend Snapshots: Bedroom Curtains & Memphis

I finished the fourth panel of our bedroom curtains this weekend. Yea!!  A sewing project finished.  I first posted about this chic Dwell Studio for Robert Allen at Calico Corners fabric in August.  Click here to read.  My Instagram pictures make my walls and the fabric look somewhat yellow, but everything is actually white.  I'll post complete bedroom pictures in another week or so after a painting project is complete.

I probably ordered the fabric in September and got it shipped to me a few weeks later.  I made the first two panels fairly quickly for the window looking out to our backyard (picture bottom, right).  Those were needed quickly to block out sunlight.  Then the holidays took over my time and I finished panel three in January & four in February (picture top, left).  The last two weren't as important as they just cover a set of double doors leading to this weird room we can't figure out what to do with.  It's really just wasted space in our small house.  I used a new technique sewing these curtains from anything I've done before.  I used an inverted box pleat (as seen on the close-up picture, top right) to add dimension and fullness, but still a tailored and modern look.  I'm really happy with the outcome.

One of my goals for 2012 is to finish the project started before working on another.  I have Project ADHD (if that were a condition).  Since ordering this fabric I've also hand sewn valances for our living room (one still has to be hemmed, imagine that), sewn several pillows for the sofa and chairs, I am half finished hand-piecing a quilt, and installed window hardware for the dressing curtains, which I will be working on next.  I drive my own self crazy with how I complete projects, but I'm working on streamlining.

On a separate note, we saw Memphis the musical on Friday night and it was sooooo good.  It won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Musical.  I would recommend anyone see it that enjoys live productions.  There was plenty of dancing, upbeat music, and several comical parts.

New Decor Items At Dwell

On my search for the perfect rug for our living room...well, perfect and affordable...I noticed Dwell Studio just added some new options to their site.  The affordability plays a big part in our decision making.  Rugs can be so expensive!  However, the rugs at Dwell Studio are fantastic and reasonably price - voila!

Chic and functional pieces for the home:

I j'adore this media cabinet.  I think I would use it as a sideboard to store my china and other fun dishware I have, but don't use very often.  The metallic finish in gold leaf is just the right amount of pizazz.

A library table?  What a great way to display loads of design and art books.

These peg legs are such a great look.  Tailored and classic.

For the Love of Fabric

Over my lunch break yesterday I decided to go to CalicoCorners so I could find some fabric to make new pillows for our living room this weekend.  I was so excited to see the new collection of fabrics DwellStudio for Robert Allen!! What great design and colors to choose from!  Living in Tampa I'm really limited on fabric store selections.  Maybe not that many crafty, do-it-youself types here??  I'm really not sure.  There have been times when I went to Calico Corners and feel like the style has been a little "old lady" if you know what I mean.  But in the past year or so the choices have definitely improved towards more modern, contemporary, and stylish fabrics to choose from. 

I realize now these fabrics were released in March, but I still wanted to share their fabulousness.
