Red Carpet Rundown: 2013 Grammys

I can't finish a full review tonight since I have an early morning tomorrow, but wanted to share my favorites.  I was surprised by several women! Rihanna, Adele, and Beyonce all changed it up from what I was expecting.

I have a big love of green.  It's always been my favorite color so the following three dresses struck a high note with me.

Florence Welch in Givenchy - this is a horrible picture, but I thought the dress was outstanding.  The studs on a large scale made it Grammy-worthy and less Oscar/Golden Globe-style.

Katy Perry looked hot!  This dress is not forgiving and she looks amazing.  Great color and just enough skin (even if it doesn't follow "the memo" guidelines).

Solange Knowles wears kelly green very well.  I am a big fan of girls rocking their 'fros.  It just shows confidence and a little attitude.  I don't think I would have picked those shoes, but I also don't have a close up look of them which could change my opinion possibly.

Rihanna looks so glamorous...and conservative!  What a nice change.  This natural hair style is so pretty to see on her and the make-up and dress were spot-on.

Adele wears black pretty much all the time to these events so I thought this a fun change-up for her.  It's obviously not as slimming as solid black, but whatever.  She has such a great personality and voice she can rock it.

Usually Beyonce drives me bananas on the red carpet, because of her dress choices and her Barbie doll poses.  However, she is on a roll with me and this outfit totally killed it.  The lips, the heels, the cuffs, the pants - loved it all.

There wasn't a lot of va-va-voom with Giuliana Rancic's dress, but I just thought the design and texture was really cool.

Girls were sporting the cut-outs big:

Taylor Swift stepped it up big for me!  Aside from the heavy bangs and neutral lip I liked this overall look a lot.

Kelly Rowland will definitely be written up for her "side boob" showing.  This dress is too cool for it not to have been worn though.  Her bangs look almost identical to Taylor's above, but for some reason I like them on Kelly.

Alicia Keys looks very glam in her gown, but I was not into her hair.  It was too severe and boy-ish.

I could be a lone ranger liking Estelle's outfit, but I just really like a rib-drift right now.  She totally needs help from the neck up; make-up, hair stylist, hello?  You're at the GRAMMYS.

Fashionista Friday: Beach Wedding Flats

Wedding Beach Flats

Beach Wedding Flats II

Wedding Beach Flats III

A good friend getting married this summer in Mexico asked me to round up a few ideas for her to wear with her wedding gown.  I don't know if she wants sandals, slippers, sparkles, or simple so thought I would try to get a full spectrum for her to preview.  Maybe once she's narrowed down the choice a little I could do another post once the big day is closer.  She mentioned that she would entertain the idea of wearing Alexander McQueen since that is one of her favorites, Kate Middleton, favorite designer.  Unfortunately, I could only locate one pair of white flats that would be beach appropriate, but maybe the brand will release more summer-style flats in the spring.

I really love both #11 and #12.  The Emanuela Caruso sandals are gorgeous at $370 (click on the link below and see how they look on the model's foot for verification).  Of course, the Swarovski crystal-embellished Rene Caovilla sandals are a little more steep at $1,075, but aren't they fabulous??  I love some pizazz peeking out under a long white gown.

Dilemmas, Dilemmas

Our kitchen is brand spanking new so I'm working with what is in the house for now.  We may do a complete overhaul someday, but for now it's in perfect condition and there's no sense in ripping out all new cabinets just because I would rather have black or charcoal on the bottom and glass-front white on the top.  However, we can install some lighting to give the area our own touch and some character.

I purchased these globe pendants last week at West Elm and think they would look cool over the bar area.  In the store they were half off so I couldn't resist.  Plus, I can always return if I change my mind.  I will have to have an electrician run wires to install and I'll also want a separate light switch with a dimmer for them.

I totally wish I could put these Hicks pendants over the bar,  but 1) they are a buttload more expensive and 2) I don't think I'd like the antique brass right next to our stainless steel refrigerator.    Gorgeous though, right?

Although this kitchen has theirs right next to the stainless steel appliances and it looks totally hot.  Maaatt, can we spend 10 times my pendant budget, please??

Digging these brass pendants by Robert Abbey and Mary McDonald too.

I'm also considering these globe pendants just because I know the husb doesn't want anything that will obstruct the view since he is on the taller side.

So now the next decision is to pick a chandelier to go over our kitchen table that is only 10 feet away.  Thus, they will need to coordinate somewhat.  Our table is polished steel with studs around the edge of the tabletop, very tough.  Our leather chairs soften the look though.

If I had an unlimited budget I would totally glam it up with this spikey number

Loving this disc chandelier too.

Not as glam, but the Sputnik chandelier is still pretty funky and a statement piece.

This Eclipse chandelier is a choice from West Elm we could very well go with.  It will provide great lighting, but it seems a little safe.

I like this Firefly pendant from CB2 if I'm going simple.  Plus the price is fantastic.

Any thoughts?  Let me know!

Red Carpet Rundown: 2013 Golden Globes

My top ten are in order of favorites:

My #1 pick the moment I saw her.  Kate Hudson looks absolutely stunning in Alexander McQueen.  Just enough rock n' roll and the right amount of sex appeal with the plunge.

The belt that Jennifer Lawrence wore with her Dior Haute Couture is what sealed the deal for my #2 pick.  It gives her the great hourglass figure that all women AND men enjoy.  Marvelous color too.

The movie star is back!  Nicole Kidman rocked it in this Alexander McQueen.  Loved the Chop (that's what they're calling this length per Karlie Kloss in latest Vogue).

I mean is Helen Mirren the hottest older woman or what?  She looked amazing in Badgley Mischka.  What a waistline!

Great look for Katherine McPhee.  The lines all work so well; the plunge, the waistband, the slit, the double ankle straps.

Julianne Moore and Tom Ford are a match made in heaven.  I'm all about black & white (see my Christmas party dress...and well my last 10 purchases. Anyway, that's another post).

Hmmm, what?  Claire Danes gave birth a month ago??  What the hell?  I'd like to know how much weight she gained overall, because if she looks this thin I'm guessing not much.  So, yeah, Ms. Danes looks redic in Versace.

I thought Olivia Munn looked super cool in this Georgio Armani dress.  I know it doesn't have that ball gown WOW factor or mermaid bombshell sexiness, but I just love a girl that can rock a cool, unique dress.  (See my #1 pick).

Kerry Washington brought another cool dress (Miu Miu) that not everyone can pull off, but she did.

I love a glamorous white gown on a red carpet.  Not loving Anne's hair, but the Chanel Couture dress is exquisite.

From the waist up I was so in love with Julianne Hough's gown!  The rockstar hair, the gold embellishment...then the camera pulled away and I was soooo disappointed.  What's with all the pouf??    Monique Luillier needed to know when to call it quits with the fabric.  So from the top up this is a fav. :)

Zooey Deschanel looked so glamorous last night!  So happy she didn't do anything cutsey.  Yeah for Oscar de la Renta!

This Zac Posen dress is perfect for Kelly.  A mermaid fit just works for her.  It's cool how the bottom almost looks like it's detachable.

A great look for Amy Adams in Marchesa.  Super feminine and pretty.

Love all the leg Eva showed in her Pucci gown.

Jennifer Garner always has great arms.  Even though this dress didn't wow me the love between Ben and Jenn is what I adore the most about her (as corny as it sounds).  They are such a great couple!!!!

I'm still trying to figure out parts of her speech, but the fact that she's 50 is what kills me about Jodi Foster.  Hot damn, girl!  I'll have what she's having.

Adele looks like a classy lady.  Beautiful hair and make-up and AWESOME acceptance speech.  Using the work 'pissy' on stage is always funny.

Amanda Seyfried is pretty in blushful lace.

My not-so-favs:
I liked this dress but hated the clutch with it.

Lena earned two Golden Globes last night.  It's time Lena got a stylist.  Her hair is much improved, but she could do much better with the dress.  I die for her show though!!! Watch it if you don't.  She's a total girl's girl.  Good real-life jokes.

Love Sarah Hyland, but this dress is way too mature for her.

I always hate when I don't like the look of a girl I really like, however the color does nothing for me. If it were in emerald green Emily Blunt would look stunning.

 Bor-ing.

Why the long boobs, Jessica?  The color is pretty, but not a fan of the bodice or the hairstyle.

Here's another Emily Blunt case.  I so look to Sienna Miller for cool fashion and this did nothing for me.  I do respect that she wore this to support a fellow Brit up-and-coming designer however.
